The Book Attic Interviews Author Kelly Moran (March '08)

Kelly lives in Milwaukee, WI, USA

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from Milwaukee ?

Being from the Midwest , I think people have a common misconception of us. There are a lot of famous people from Milwaukee , and I'm proud to be one of the few authors.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?

I think, ultimately, my family and friends. I always liked to escape in reading, but they inspired me to go for it in writing. Writers: E.B. White, Poe, Austen, Roberts, Graham, Neggers.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published?

I think I began to take it seriously after a HS teacher read a short story of mine and gave glowing recommendations.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?

I would like to say no, but let's face it, it always does. The way you view the world is how you write about your characters in it.

Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)?

Usually before.

Tell us why you write the genre(s) that you write?

You write what you know, I suppose. I read in the romance genre, I understand it, and there's something to be said for happily ever after in this crazy world. Gives us hope.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?

I'm working on a literature novella, taken in first person, from the view of a dead woman. Also a romantic suspense, and children's book.

Is there any awards or other mentionables?

I am a recipient of an Editors Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement, inducted into the Who's Who Book of Americans, a respected reviewer for BookPleasures, and an avid reader. I am married, with twin sons.
