AUTHOR, GERI AHEARN, INTERVIEWS KELLY MORAN (4/08)
1. When did
you first realize that you wanted to be
a writer?
I was very young. I loved reading as a child, still do, but I started writing for school assignments and realized how much I loved it.
2. What type
of books do you enjoy writing?
I write mostly romance genre books, but I do have a poetry and short stories book out, as well as a children's and fictional literature I'm working on.
3. Did a
special person in your life inspire you to
become a
writer?
My family and friends have always been supportive, and through the years I have had several teachers pushing me to pursue it.
4. Have you
written any books based on a true life
story?
No, however, I think every writer gains inspiration from events or people in their life.
5. Who is
your favorite Author?
I have several; Roberts, Neggers, Graham, Johansen, McCall, Poe, Austen...
6. Are your
characters created from people you've
known in real
life, or are they from the imagination?
Mostly from my imagination, but yet I always find they share characteristics of people I'm surrounded by.
7. How many
books have you written?
Currently, I have three published, and three I'm working on.
8. Where can
your books be purchased?
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Warners, Borders, Target, Alibris, Powells.
9. Describe
how you felt the first time you were
Published.
Elated, to say the least. It was always a dream.
10. Do you
have any current work in progress for
a new
release?
No, still writing them.
11. What are
some links to your websites where visitors
can be
invited to read a BIO on you as author, and your writing?
www.authorkellymoran.com, I am on FaceBook, MySpace, and GoodReads, too.
12. Do you
have goals set for the future in your journey
of writing?
I'm hoping to get into a larger publishing house and just maybe people can recognize my name.
13. At this
point and time in your life, are you exactly
where you
wanted to be in your writing endeavors?
No, I have always set high goals for myself, and I will continue to achieve them.
14. In your
opinion, what are some factors that can
help authors
reach their dream of accomplishment?
An agent helps- do your research. Find an editor before submitting. Do at least 2 re-visions before submitting. And never give up.
15. As an
author, have you ever experienced writer's
block?
A few times, but it never lasted too long. I just work on something else and come back to it.
16. In your
opinion, what advice can you give to authors
to prevent
writer's block?
I find reading another book in your genre helps gain ideas and gives you a break. It never hurts to start a new project and go back to the old one later.
17. As a
child, did you have any favorite books that you
enjoyed
reading?
Oh, yes. Charlotte's Web, The Boxcar Children, Dr. Seuss, Where the Red Fern Grows, Amelia Bedilia....
17. As a
child, did you enjoy reading a lot?
Just about every chance I got.
18. If you
had the opportunity for one day to live the
life of a
famous author, who would it be?
Hmm, I'd like to say Jane Austen, but she is deceased. Probably, Stephen King, mostly out of curiosity.
19. Many
authors feel a sense of self-satisfaction after
publishing a
book. Some feel a sense of achievement,
can you
relate to such feelings?
Most definitely. When you work that hard, and it is a process, you can't help but relish that joy. But then...on to the next one.
20. How
do you balance your current occupation with
your goals
for writing?
Now, that has been a challenge. With twins, a part time healthcare job, doing reviews, and writing...it's been hard. I do a lot of short hand notes now wherever I am, and go back to the computer later.
21. How did
you feel at your first book-signing, or
the first
time you signed one of your published books?
I felt a bit out of place, actually. Like I was doing something wrong. Surreal.
22. If you
won the lottery tomorrow, would that change
your plans in
your writing career? If so, how?
Not one iota. I would still plug away at it. I may have more time for it.
23. As
writers, we begin with a manuscript that becomes
published,
then we learn the meaning of promotions.
In your
opinion, what was the most difficult task?
Finding creative ways to promote it without being pushy or demanding.
24. Some
writer's need to listen to soft music to help
them write
those chapters for a new release, some
prefer
looking at the ocean, or flowers. Do you have
any
particular scenery, or object that you wish to focus
on when
writing?
Complete silence. I can't write in noise.
25. If you
had books published in one Genre such as
horror, and
became daring to write a novel for a different
genre, what
would it be?
I've written in several genre's, so I think I did this. Romantic fiction, suspense, poetry, short stories, and children's.
